The river rises in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district. The source of the Triebisch is in the Tharandter Forest south of Grillenburg in Schneise 15. 50.933659 N, 13.512445 O (The X-Bach, the so-called "Alte Triebisch" with connection to Kroatenbach or Kroatenwasser has its source between Klingenberg-Colmnitz and Grillenburg) In a narrow valley, it flows through the former municipality of Triebischtal, which was named after it. At Rothschönberg, the Triebisch takes in the mining waters of the Freiberg mining district through the Rothschönberger Stolln and, after flowing through the Triebischtal district of Meissen, it flows into the Elbe in Meissen in the Triebischvorstadt opposite of Cölln. The Triebisch is not navigable; The largest tributary is the Kleine Triebisch, which flows in above Garsebach. On the left bank of the river, between Garsebach and the Buschbad, stretches the three and a half kilometer long obsidian rock formations of the Garsebacher Schweiz. Nice area for hiking, but it should be dry.

By train from Niederwiesa to Edle Krone stop. From there we cycle via Höckendorf and Paulshain to Seifersdorf. At the train station we turn onto the "Rabenauer Grund" cycle and hiking trail and cycle past the "Trompeterfelsen" to the Spechtritz stop. In order to avoid impassable terrain for bicycles (narrow places and some steps), we take the road to the Rabenau train station. At the "Rabenauer Mühle" (snack bar open) continue on the cycling and hiking trail in the Rabenauer Grund through numerous bridges of the Weißeritztalbahn and past the "Rabenauer Grund hydroelectric power plant" in the direction of Cossmannsdorf. There we then ride on the cycle path along Thanrandter Straße (S 194) to the "Tharandter Fischmarkt", eat delicious fish sandwiches and have a shandy. From there it is another 1.2 km to Tharandt train station. We take the next train towards Chemnitz. But it's only on the train that we realize that it doesn't stop in Niederwiesa because it's a regional express. So we get off in Flöha and cycle the remaining 6 km to home. All in all a very nice tour with ideal weather (around 20 degrees) but with some longer and tough climbs between Edle Krone and Seifersdorf.

The paths along the Triebisch are in themselves a varied hiking terrain. From a cultural and historical point of view, however, it becomes particularly outstanding due to the main mouth hole and the Röschen mouth hole (= the water drainage) of the Rothschönberger adit, which drains the mines of the Freiberg ore mining area to this day.
