The refuge was built and managed in 1900, and in 1956 the BSG Lokomotive Arnstadt took over and breathed new life into it. 65 years later, the city of Arnstadt renovated the refuge with the help of the “CLLD/LEADER” funding program and, thanks to many donations, additional seating areas could be created to linger The “Refuge in the Reinsbergen” offers overnight and celebration options. The “Kulturverein Reinsfeld e.V.” has taken over the support and you can receive information by email (schutzhuette-reinsfeld@gmx.de). The refuge is located directly on the “From Bach to Goethe” hiking trail, with wonderful panoramic views of the valley.

At the same location, the completely new refuge "Hopfis Hütt" can no longer be overlooked. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the pulpit, directly on the Reinsberge panorama trail. The view ahead towards the Geratal, Thuringian Forest and Drei Gleichen is kept open. Really well done and perfect for taking a break 🍻 🥪 and as weather protection 👍🏻

The wooden Bach monument on Espenfelder Strasse near Arnstadt is very badly worn by the weather. On the back of the column there are sound plates with mallets. Here you can get down to work and listen to Bach's masterpiece "The Art of Fugue".

The Reinsberge, located between Plaue and Ilmenau, is a low mountain range in the Ilm district of Thuringia, rising to 605.4 m above sea level, approximately 11.5 km long, and covering an area of approximately 35 km². The Reinsberge are by far the most famous and, at 604.1 m, the second highest elevation in the Reinsberge, and home to a castle ruin.
