The historic lava cellars are unique in the world, created by human hands over time under the most adverse conditions. Today, combined with a visit to the Lava Dome Museum, they are an absolute must for visitors to the Osteifel / Laacher See Volcano Park. A network of underground lava cellars stretches across an area of almost 3 km² beneath the town of Mendig. At a depth of 32 meters, this subterranean "landscape" is unique in the world.
