The shelter also serves as a running meeting point for the Grebensteiner running club every Saturday. The site also offers a fireplace and a station on the forest nature trail. The shelter itself is closed (as of October 2024)

Beautiful trail

A beautiful shelter to relax in. Beautifully quiet and secluded.

The shelter on the Langenberg offers a whole range of seating areas and a meadow for playing all around. If you step out onto the edge of the forest nearby, there is a beautiful view. A forest nature trail is located in the immediate vicinity.

A nice place for a break. The hut is unlocked and therefore accessible at all times. There are tables and benches in the hut and in front of it.

Very nice spacious barbecue area

The barbecue area is huge, but staying in the barbecue hut is quite uncomfortable when the weather is bad and drafty due to the very large windows. At the barbecue area there is a large viewing platform of the surroundings. There is also an information board with a true local history and information on the fairytale land path that leads here.

Emanuel Geibel lived at Escheberg Castle for two years and reached it after a hike from Lübeck. Here he composed the song "May has come", which can be read in the refuge. The pavilion with a beautiful view of the castle grounds and the golf course behind is unfortunately not signposted. You have to know much more that you can and may reach it via a steep meadow path. Once at the top, it is an ideal resting place in memory of the poet.
