A small but beautiful "moated castle" at the foot of Tecklenburg.

In 1703, Franz Ostman (* 1645) built the manor house with the two side buildings on Leye. On September 24, 1705, he was awarded the title “von der Leye” as a hereditary title of nobility.

A beautiful approach to the castle. However, the walk along the moat is also worthwhile, as is a tour around the moated castle. The 15th-century castle consists of an outer and a main castle on two islands. Thanks to the different architectural periods, elements of Classicism (Rentei), Neo-Gothic (chapel), and Renaissance (stepped gable) can be found here. Since its purchase in 1786, the castle has been privately owned by the Heereman von Zuydtwyck family from Roermond, and is still inhabited today by Philipp Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck. Conclusion: Even though the castle is privately owned, a visit and tour of the complex is worthwhile. Tours of the public parts of the castle are also available upon reservation.

An impressive castle ruin at the gates of Tecklenburg's old town. The trip is definitely worth the effort. A few meters further on there is Paula's organic snack bar right outside the city gate.

Festival in the castle ruins of Tecklenburg. Mostly covered. Unfortunately no bicycle parking. You should bring cushions for the benches.

Gut Leye is an estate complex with a manor house in the large Leye nature reserve in Atter. It has been owned by the Ostmann von der Leye family since 1860.
