The complex Râpa Roșie (Red Gorge) Nature Reserve encompasses specific erosion and stream formations that lend the landscape an impressive appearance. It also boasts a unique flora with many rare and endemic plants. On the nearly vertical wall, strange columns and stepped pyramids, separated by ravines, form a micro-relief that geographers call "Badlands" after the famous model in South Dakota. The formation consists primarily of deposits of red clay with gray and red sandstone.

To reach the Seven Ladders Gorge, you have to hike a good four kilometers uphill from the town of Timișu de Jos through the Piatra Mare Mountains, always following the Șurii de Piatră mountain stream, which also carved the gorge into the rock further up. In total, the approach takes just under an hour and a half and involves climbing 260 meters, occasionally surrounded by zipline adventurers who, suspended from a pulley on a rope, use gravity to crisscross the canyon.

These small caves are located right next to the river and you can climb through them with a little skill. The locals have called them "The Washed-Out Hideout".

The second crossing of the Hășdate on the hiking trail is the bridge "At the washed-out hiding place". The suspension bridge swings noticeably, especially when several people are walking on it at the same time. From the bridge you can see the caves on the left bank of the river, which gave it its name.

The first bridge over the Hășdate in the gorge is the largest and most stable. It is called the "Gate of Keys". There are three more bridges further upstream. These are much more wobbly, but still safe to cross. The Hășdate has dug itself into the landscape over a length of 31 kilometers when the Jurassic limestone terrain slowly rose over millions of years. The actual gorge is 1300 meters long, framed by steep walls up to 200 meters high.

You get nice views on top of the river and this location is beautiful. Worth seeing it!
