It was planned and created in the second half of the 19th century, like many recreational parks in other cities. An "English Garden" was created on the former eastern green, i.e. a forest park with a circular main path running through the middle. While it was used as pasture for cattle and as a training area by the military until the beginning of the 20th century, it is now used exclusively for recreation.
