The dam in the Ibra Valley (Ibra Reservoir), built in 1974 for flood protection, is also used for leisure and recreation. Kirchheim Lake Park offers campsites, holiday homes, waterskiing facilities, beach volleyball courts, and other sports facilities, as well as a conference hotel. The 8.4-hectare, up to eight-meter-deep bathing lake is visited by an average of around 60 bathers per day; during peak season, the number can rise to 300.

Basalt columns down to the water. Walking around requires a certain amount of physical agility, the path is very overgrown, you have to climb over tree trunks and crawl under them. But absolutely worth seeing

A circular path leads around the lake in the Ibratal and over the dam. The new fable path "Wupp die Kupp" begins at the Seepark Kirchheim car park. The R18 cycle path leads from Kirchheim to the Seepark. The Seepark Kirchheim is home to the spiritual event center of the Bhakti Marga religious community with the Ashram Sri Vitthal Dham, a Hindu monastery. Meditation and yoga courses are offered.

From above, you get the impression that you can't walk around the lake close to the shore - but you can! ;) In two places, narrow paths lead to the shore and you can also walk around the lake from below. Be careful, though, as the narrow path is quite overgrown and unsecured, especially in the area of the small peninsula!

Great opportunity to relax - there are plenty of benches, the pond is extremely well maintained and invites you to linger. Highly Recommended!

The Sebbelsee was created by an abandoned basalt quarry in the last century in the summit area of the Sebbel hill (333 meters) and is now surrounded by a dense stock of trees. When construction of the Knüllwaldbahn from Treysa to Bad Hersfeld began at the beginning of the 20th century, the basalt quarry also went into operation. After the quarry was shut down, the Sebbelsee was created.
