After the Second World War, the first displaced persons from Silesia came to Ostbevern in 1946 and, after making stops along the way, settled in the so-called “Eastern Expellees’ Settlement”. In 1955, the settlement was named after the Silesian writer Joseph Freiherr von Eichendorff. Today, committed citizens are organizing the “Initiative Eichendorffsiedlung e.V.” to make the place lively and conscious of its history. A spacious hut with a book exchange shelf and information on the history of the settlement offers a reason to take a break.
