For €5 one-way per person, you can take the taxi that also transports hotel guests to the starting point. We simply walked and picked up a section of the trail halfway. Tip: There's a lovely low route with a steep climb at the end (good hiking boots are essential!) along the beach, and a higher route from the Refugio back to the parking lot. Including a detour to the viewpoint, this makes a total of about seven kilometers. Highly recommended!

"Sos cuiles," or "the sheepfolds" in Italian, represent the last testimonies of pastoral life on the remote hills of Supramonte. Until the 1960s, the shepherds from Urzulei, Baunei, Dorgali, Oliena and Orgosolo had developed a system of economic exploitation based on the breeding of goats and pigs, challenging the extreme and wild conditions of Sardinia which made any other form of survival. The Cuile Ziu Tattanu is one of these shelters, restored in 2012 to bring it back to its original Sardinian form. Today it serves as a mountain lodge with a fire pit. It is definitely possible to sleep in it.

I don't know if alpine experience is necessary, but sturdy shoes are a must for the loose rocks. The route is really nice and above all really quiet. I haven't met a single person. But the rocky path was really demanding for me. When climbing up from Cala Gonone, I really had problems finding the right way. At the top, the markings were much better.
