The approximately 2 km long circular trail in the gorge is an absolute must - the water has an incredibly Turkish color and the views of the river are breathtaking and always different 😊

The hike to the hut is absolutely beautiful and very well signposted. Highly recommended in good weather. But take the same route back. The other hiking trail shown here is partly very overgrown and difficult to walk on. I had to fight my way through dense bushes in places.

Beautiful views over the gorge. Known for its vivid turquoise waters, the gorge is surrounded by lush native bush and dramatic rock formations. The striking water color is caused by glacial flour—fine sediment from nearby glaciers—suspended in the river, reflecting sunlight. Visitors can explore the area via scenic walking tracks, including suspension bridges offering breathtaking views. Open year-round. If it’s not busy you can cycle the path up to the bridge.

The Suspension Bridge offers a beautiful view of the Hokitika Gorge from different perspectives.

You can swim here. But you should definitely pay attention to the signs. Strong current and the water is very cold. Mosquito spray is recommended

A very nice place, unfortunately with sand tiles! So don't forget the repellent! There is a circular hiking trail about 2 km long, which was unfortunately closed at the end of February 2020.

Clear water directly from the mountains. Officially swimming is not appreciated here anymore as some accidents happened in the past and the water can be quite fast along the gorge. If you walk a bit downriver from the parking lot you will find some nice pots with slower current and less depth to get into the water.
