The church, dedicated to Saints Vito, Modesto and Crescenzio, dates back to 1027 but was built on the ruins of an older building. In the 12th-14th centuries it represented one of the parish churches of the Diocese of Ravenna. The bell tower, later, is dated 1228. In the 17th century it was profoundly modified but, between 1925 and 1927, the old Romanesque church was rediscovered and its original layout was restored, although the central nave was raised. The basilica has three naves separated by round arches, with relative apses and retains its typical Romanesque structure, characterised by a raised altar, preceded by steps, under which there is the crypt. The parish church represents one of the few examples of Romanesque architecture still existing in the area.

Built by order of Niccolò d'Este in 1435, it was the first of the famous Este residences to be built from the walls of Ferrara and always remained the richest and most sumptuous. The Este lords wanted to create a series of sumptuous residences that were later called "Delights", the most sumptuous of all was Belriguardo which also served as a summer palace. Dozens of halls frescoed by the greatest artists of the various eras and incredibly huge gardens characterized this oasis of beauty. The Sala della Vigna is the precious and only element that survived the devastating fury that pervaded all those who used Belriguardo for four centuries, since the Este family, in 1598, was forced to abandon the Ferrarese fiefdom to return it to the Pope, retiring to Modena and Reggio, fiefdoms that the Este lords had instead obtained from the Emperor. The large rooms of the palace were transformed into stables and granaries and the elegant columns of the loggias became monumental and square pillars for rustic shelters. Belriguardo has survived to this day despite progressive collapses, adaptations, demolitions and its division into numerous private homes. The remains of the ancient delight still visible today are the tower in the center, from which the Este family observed the shows in the fish pond below fed by water from the Sandalo river, the six Gothic windows from the end of the fifteenth century and the Sala della Vigna, the only room that has returned some evidence of its ancient splendor. The building is home to the Belriguardo Civic Museum which exhibits archaeological finds from the area and also dedicates sections to Renaissance and modern art. The Vineyard Hall can be visited during the opening hours of the Archaeological Museum.
