Very special place on an active waste mountain. It's a beautiful ride to the top of the mount, but you have to endure the smell.

The VAM mountain near Wijster will be closed from mid-July 2023 until the end of August. During the summer, a new cycling course will be constructed on the popular 'Col du VAM' among cyclists. The existing course will also be modified. This is happening in anticipation of the European Cycling Championship, which will be held on the 'Roof of Drenthe' in September.

There are four different climbs on the VAMberg, this is the Kasseien climb. The first part of the climb is still on asphalt, but after the fork (keep left) a short but steep strip of stones has been laid!

Climbs specially designed for cyclists. There are three routes up, one of which splits halfway into a regular climb and a cobblestone climb, and there is a way to descend. At the top, you have a beautiful view of the surroundings in good weather. There is little shelter at the top. If you are on holiday in Drenthe (or live there) you really should have climbed the Col du VAM at least once. Still a beautiful col outside category with its whooping 4,800 cm height 😉😎. The cobblestone strip to the top is certainly worth it.
