We were lucky enough to see a local squirrel eating its meal, unimpressed by our presence.

Coso Mine is an old Lake Isabella mine, dating back to the gold rush era, and now serves as a human-made habitat for bats. There is a small opening into a tunnel with metal bars, which is the entrance point for the mine. The bars have been specifically constructed to dissuade humans from entering the area, which is now home to the local bats, a crucial component of the ecosystem.

The air coming from this cave is about 55 degrees - on a warm day, standing in front of the gates for awhile is a perfect way to cool down.

One of the many interesting rock formations in Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve. The cave was used by shepherds as shelter while their cattle grazed in the nearby plains.

The remains of the Lost Burro Mine with its scattered wooden cabins and rusty barrels is a picturesque site. You will also find an old mine shaft as well as the ruins of the mill. The mines are up the small gulch beyond the mill, strung out along the south side. The Lost Burro Mine is a former gold mine that was closed in the 1970's.

Tunnel 6 was built by Chinese laborers in 1866 by hand. They broke and hauled off solid granite rock, working in harsh conditions. They built Tunnel 6, the longest tunnel in the Sierra Crossing. Today, you can still walk through the tunnel and imagine what a feat building it by hand was.

Formerly known as Spreckels Quarry this area is very popular with rock climbers. Even if you're not a climber, it's still a beautiful area and worth a visit to see the sheer cliff faces.

Here the Original Lincoln Highway Trail crosses over the old Snow Tunnel 6 of the Railway across Donner Pass. The train has been routed through a new, longer tunnel a mile further south, so the historic tunnels are now a snow-free trail open to explore
