Pefki is a pretty hilltop village easily accessible from Makry-Gialos by good road or on foot via the scenic Pefki Gorge. Many houses have been renovated and the residents put a lot of effort into beautiful potted plants. To stop off, there is the kafenion "Weinlaube" (the landlord speaks German, among other things) and the tavern Piperia.

Very worthwhile excursion destination, which can also be reached on foot from Pefki via a small path in just under an hour. The ascent to the Apoloustres cave is a bit sportier. For sights you have to penetrate deeper into the interior.
