ロッフェンデヘム城は、まるで絵本から抜け出してきたかのようです。多くの角塔、階段状の切妻壁、胸壁を備え、特に写真映えする遺産です。敷地は私有地で立ち入りはできませんが、公道からは壮大なファサードの素晴らしい眺めを楽しむことができます。 この場所の歴史は13世紀にまで遡り、当時ここにはロッフェンデヘム領主の要塞化された城塔がありました。何世紀にもわたり、敷地は何度か所有者が変わり、城は拡張され続けました。 17世紀には、ゲントの騎士であったヨース・トリエストが、北棟や礼拝堂など、城に大規模な増築を行いました。その後、この地はドンス・デ・ロッフェンデヘム家が所有し、何世紀にもわたってこの敷地に住んでいました。 今日見られるロマンチックな景観は、主に1858年から1888年の間の大規模な改築によって生まれました。建築家のパウルス・ヴァン・ケルクホーフェは、古い核に現在の折衷主義的で絵のように美しい外観を与えました。 周辺地域も訪れる価値があります。城の前には、約1.5キロメートルにわたって続く印象的で保護されたオーク並木があり、ブルージュ運河までまっすぐに伸びています。 残念ながら中に入ることはできませんが、道からでも十分に夢の世界に浸ることができるお城です。

The Rabot is a fortified lock dating from 1491 with two imposing towers, built after the siege of Ghent. It gave its name to the Rabot district and is one of the city's most striking heritage sites.

Originally, this castle was the seat of the Lords of Lovendegem, initially the Van Lovendegem family, known from the 13th or 14th century. In 1462, the lordship passed to Philip the Good, who was also Count of Flanders. The castle's contents were sold by Emperor Charles V between 1550 and 1552, and ultimately, the lordship was sold to Knight Joos Triest. In 1700, it passed to Gillis Dons, who was elevated to baron in 1716 and changed the family name to Dons de Lovendeghem. The castle remained in the family's possession for centuries. In 1918, Baron I. Dons de Lovendeghem was murdered here. A memorial chapel has been erected at the site of the baron's murder. The actual castle was probably originally a keep with a small house. In the 17th century, Joos Triest added a northern wing with a chapel. In 1721, the right wing and a new facade were built at the behest of Gillis Dons. The Claeys-Boúúaert Domain is rich in nature. In the grasslands you will find many mushrooms. In the forest grow typical forest plants such as Solomon's seal, musk herb and lily of the valley.

Beautiful castle in eclectic style. Unfortunately not open to the public, but can be admired from a distance.
