The Monastery of Evangelistria (Greek: Moni Evangelistrias) on Skiathos is the only active monastery on the island and has great historical significance, as it was here that the first Greek national flag was woven, blessed, and presented to the freedom fighters in 1807. Built between 1794 and 1806, it is known for its Byzantine architecture, a three-domed cruciform church, and a small museum of historical artifacts.

The Kastro in the north of the island was the island's capital between 1360 and 1829. Fearing pirate attacks, the city was expanded into a fortress. The walls encircled approximately 300 houses and 22 churches. Once accessible only by a drawbridge, today the entrance is accessed via a staircase.

There's the "Old" and the "New" port of Skiathos. We preferred the promenade at the "Old" port. There's also the oldest taverna on the island. Best food ever!
