A must for any Schwerin trip

The Warsow Church is a Gothic building and the oldest church in the Stralendorf district, probably built in the 12th or 13th century. The interior is brick-walled. The ceiling was originally vaulted. In 1863, the windows were enlarged, thus depriving them of their original form. In 1891/1892, the church was expanded and its interior renovated. In the 1970s, work on the roof and interior became necessary, resulting in the loss of some of the wood paneling. A baptismal font, pulpit, and pews from 1892 have been preserved, as has the old carved altar screen on the north side. During the renovations from 1974 to 1976, a simple altar table was installed.

With a floral tribute to Schwerin’s honorary citizen Bertha Klingberg, the state capital commemorates the 125th birthday

Bertha Klingberg, an honorable personality in Schwerin, was known as the city's “flower woman”. She was born in Hamburg in 1898, but grew up in Bützow, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and discovered her love of nature at an early age. She began her career as a flower arranger in Rostock at the age of 14. After her husband's death in the First World War, she moved with her son to Schwerin, where she worked as a flower woman at the Schwerin butcher's market and appeared in traditional Rehna costume, which earned her the reputation of a real "original". At the ripe old age of 91, Klingberg collected 17,000 signatures to make Schwerin the state capital of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This remarkable achievement made her the first and only person to receive the Ring of Honor from the state capital Schwerin in 1993. In 2002 she was made an honorary citizen of the city and died in 2005 at the age of 107. To commemorate her work and her contribution to the city of Schwerin, the redesigned square on the south bank of Lake Burgsee was named after her in 2009 on the occasion of the Federal Garden Show. A plaque there commemorates the honorary citizen, and since June 2, 2010, a life-size bronze statue made by Bernd Streiter has honored Bertha Klingberg. The statue shows her sitting on a bench, symbolic of the calm and serenity she displayed throughout her life. The "Flower Woman" as a bronze statue is a beautiful monument that recalls the deep roots of Bertha Klingberg's commitment and love for nature and the city of Schwerin. From this square you also have a wonderful view of the castle island, which underlines the special nature of this place. Bertha Klingberg's life story and legacy are closely linked to the city of Schwerin and are fittingly honored by this square and the statue. It remains a symbol of devotion, a sense of community and a deep connection with nature.
