I don't know what people get out of destroying everything all the time. The hiking trail is generally fine again. I thought it was very nice and can only recommend it. It's also easy for older people to walk on.

Idyllic path from Stadtroda to Hermsdorf, less crowded than the Mühltal. If you don't want to walk the entire way, you can use the Papiermühle station on the RB 21 of the Erfurter Bahn.
