In the middle of Fischbach, a stele points to the eventful history of the Birkenfeld region. During the Weimar Republic, the area along the Nahe from the source near Selbach to Kirn was an exclave of the Free State of Oldenburg 1918-1946 (successor state of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg 1815-1918).
