At this point, the still-preserved railway bridge from 1926 crosses Machnower Weg. As planning progresses, an investigation is underway into whether the bridge needs to be replaced with a new one. Immediately west of the bridge will be the new Griebnitzsee crossing structure and a branch towards Potsdam Medienstadt Babelsberg. Both will allow trains on the Potsdam Main Line to continue their journeys towards both Potsdam and Michendorf. Connections to existing lines will be created. The line is to be reactivated as part of the i2030 project and designed for speeds of up to 160 km/h. In the future, up to four hourly regional trains will run on the new line. Between Griebnitzsee and Potsdamer Platz, new tracks are being laid over a total length of 22 kilometers. A further 10.5 kilometers of track are being upgraded and electrified on the Berlin inner ring. A new station for regional transport is to be built here on Stahnsdorfer Damm, in the immediate vicinity of the Europarc Dreilinden industrial park.
