A well surfaced trail leads you through a wooded gorge past Janet's Foss waterfall. The scenery is spectacular and the trail surfaced but with lots of limestone features to keep you on your toes. It's a good winter option when everything else is really boggy

If you are feeling brave and you are good at climbing, you can go up the waterfall and follow a path upto the top of Gordale Scar, but it's not easy and the flow of the water can change daily depending on weather and rain etc so this can increase the difficulty and danger, and plus like myself you might get wet feet lol.

Gordale Scar is a stunning natural wonder which is not that hard to navigate even if you're not familiar with the area. To make your experience more enjoyable, make sure to plan your route and be prepared for the steep climb up to the top of the waterfall. Be sure to pack appropriate gear for the weather conditions, as the gorge can be slippery and wet. Wearing sturdy shoes with good grip, and bringing waterproof clothing can help ensure you have a comfortable and safe experience.

Hiking up the waterfall area is dangerous at many times of the year...

Formed on Middle Craven Fault, the first thing that is likely to strike you is just how deep this gigantic collapsed cave system is. The path leading here is easy terrain, too, making this a case of maximum payoff for comparatively little effort — certainly in comparison with making it to the top of the Cove. Tired or not, we certainly don’t advise rushing this part of the adventure as you really don’t see places like this every day.

This is a beautiful spot to visit. Be aware, however, that unless you're a competent climber you cannot make this a loop as you'll have to climb the waterfall, which I might add is brilliant fun.

Janets foss waterfall is a wonderful place, it can be very busy at times but get there on the right day at the right time and you have it to yourself. Do read the story on the plaque.

A wonderful section of path to walk, high above the river with views all around on a good day, some fantastic spots for photos and to stop and have a bite to eat.

Fantastic spot to soak up the sunshine on a good day, good start finishing point for a different than usual route up pen y ghent.

Gordale Scar is one of the most dramatic sights in the Yorkshire Dales. The narrow canyon is dominated on either side by sheer walls of rock, hundreds of feet high, with Gordale Beck tumbling through the rocky ravine. The scramble is challenging and quite technical in places, so take care and watch your step.

A footpath heads alongside this rugged and beautiful stretch of water. It’s a challenging (albeit fun) scramble along this path, made easier in drier conditions. After lots of rain, water flows down both sides of the fall making it slippery and awkward, so watch your step – and enjoy!

An absolute must see after heavy rain. Like any waterfall (including Janets Foss nearby) they are a sight to see after rainfall. This is also an alternate route round to Malham Cove if you don't mind a small amount of climbing.
