The Hermannschlucht (Hermann Gorge) is the local name for the wild, rocky, wooded valley through which the Hermannsbach (also known as the Hermesbach) stream flows. It lies within the municipality of Mistelbach, west of Bayreuth, and is part of the Franconian Switzerland region. The gorge is known for its pristine and enchanting natural beauty. The stream has carved deep into the layers of Rhaetian sandstone, exposing bizarre rock formations. Impressive cross-bedding and weathering features can be found here.

The path is currently very badly damaged due to forestry work.

The Arzloch is a popular hiking destination and often still considered a hidden gem. It's a protected natural monument, a wooded area known for its atmospheric, wild gorge with eroded sandstone layers. The waterfall itself is relatively small, with a height of about 3 to 4 meters. Access to the waterfall is natural. Hikers should wear sturdy footwear, as the path leads over roots, narrow trails, and uneven forest floor. The surrounding area is the real highlight. The damp local climate has carved a unique gorge into the Rhaetian sandstone layers, which is home to rare animal and plant species. The bizarre sandstone formations, which can resemble honeycombs due to weathering, are geologically interesting.

The Buchstein rocks are a protected natural monument and a geotope located near Bayreuth. This striking rock formation consists of sandstone from the so-called Bayreuth Formation (Rhaetian-Lias or lowest Lias). The rocks, reaching up to 10 meters in height, exhibit particularly beautiful cross-bedding, honeycomb weathering, and limonite crystallization. A popular hiking destination, the rocks are characterized by their location in the middle of a forest and constantly offer new perspectives due to weathering processes. A historic water reservoir dating from 1893 is also located nearby.
