Peaceful Cotswold village and everyone smiles or speaks. Really friendly.

"Stanton is a village and civil parish in Tewkesbury Borough, Gloucestershire, England. The village is a spring line settlement at the foot of the Cotswold escarpment, about 2.5 miles (4 km) southwest of Broadway in neighbouring Worcestershire. Broadway is Stanton's postal town.  Its highest point is Shenberrow Hill on the escarpment in the southeast of the parish, 994 feet (303 m) above sea level. I finished my walk with dinner at the Mount Inn. Disposable covers are issued free to hikers to cover up your muddy boots. That's my 'blue' covered boot in the photo. I wasn't sure whether I was being shown to my table or to the scene of a murder 😁 The staff were warm, friendly, attentive and welcoming. Pippa is absolutely lovely. My meal was delicious. It was served piping hot and there was plenty of it. The views from the terrace are fantastic and would probably be even better on a sunny summers evening. I will definitely visit again.

What a great and unexpected pleasure for this 'city boy'. I stepped into the field and the horses all trotted up and surrounded me. They then proceeded to 'guilt trip' me for not having any carrots or apples😁🍏🥕. But they were so calm and gentle. Definitely a highlight for me.

However, it is believed to be possible that a Saxon church on the present site was served in early times by the monks of Winchcombe Benedictine Abbey, as the Manor, tithes and patronage of Stanton were bestowed on the Abbey by Kenulf, King of Mercia in 811 AD. Fantastic views from the top of the hill on the return leg. Looking west/south west I think that is Bredon Hill with the Malvern Hills maybe just visible in the far distance beyond.

Stanton is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt villages in the Cotswolds. Most of the houses you see today were built 400 years ago — the village church dates to the 12th century — and nearly all are made of locally quarried natural stone.
