Doing a circuit from Saul Junnction along the canal towards Splatt Bridge, back through Frampton village - two pubs and a cafe - enjoying what is said to be the longest village green in England. Rejoin the canal at Fretherne Bridge and retrace your steps to Saul Junction. 7kms.

Awesome little wooden cabin cafe - with an outside shack for coffee, snacks & ice cream 🍨- plus a main cafe which does full sit down meals. Great for brunch!

Frampton on Severn Village Green is said to be the longest village green in England, measuring about 22 acres. On the green, you find ponds and conservation areas and it is a great place for recreation and relaxation. Cricket matches are even played here. There are a couple of decent pubs either end of the green, too.

St Mary’s is a late medieval church in a picturesque setting by the River Severn. The church dates to the 13th century, but the tower and chapels were rebuilt in the 18th century. Inside, you can observe a Romanesque 12th-century lead font, 19th-century pews, and an early 17th-century pulpit. St Mary’s is Grade II-listed.

Surrounded by pretty countryside, Saul Junction is an idyllic place where the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal meets the Stroudwater Canal. Here, you can enjoy a rest and watch ships and boats from around the world navigate the waters. You can also a enjoy a pint at the local pub.

A beautiful spot and a great way to access the lanes around Saul, Fretherne, Epney, Longney and Elmore.

Apparently, this is the largest village green in the UK... with perhaps the smallest the smallest cricket pitch! There's lots to explore in Frampton, the gravel pit lakes, the canal, Saul Junction Marina and the Stroud Canal or just drop into the Bell Inn, which is a real good country pub that also offers very affordable accommodation.
