The Obelisk was built in 1762 in memory of the Duke of Beaufort's niece, Elizabetha Somerset. Only the base pedestal remains.

Stoke Park is a 270-acre open green space clearly visible from the M32 on the way into or out of Bristol. The yellow Dower House was built in 1563 as a private home, it's been a hospital and is now private apartments. The wider estate which includes a lake, old gun emplacements, a hermitage tunnel and areas of woodland is all open to the public.

Nice open space in the middle of a big city

A conspicuous landmark visible from many places in and around Bristol, the Purdown BT Tower is a 230-foot (70 m) telecommunications tower built high on Purdown, a hill above the city. A run along Purdown rewards with extensive views across Bristol. Nearby are the remains of an anti aircraft battery from the Second World War. The area is now home to a herd of goats who have been encouraged to graze the land here.

Gets you off the bumpy lumpy main track into the woods again, dropping you out right at the top of the Dower house climb to descend or head out via the ring road. Includes a slightly sketchy downhill section at the west end but is totally rideable on probably any bike in the dry. Watch out for walkers and dogs as always.
