The Rocky Island headland used to be the site of a coastguard lookout. Jutting into the North Sea, you can get a great view up and down the coast. The seawatching hut is owned by the Northumberland & Tyneside Bird Club, but visiting guests are usually welcome if someone from the club is present.

beautiful located bothy for a stop over if the weather gets bad

Bothy is in a wonderful location but was closed due to structural damage when we passed (August 2024)

The small community reserve revolves around a pond that was formed within a former coal mining area, serving as its focal point.

Green Bothy is located in the Wark Forest and has three rooms and a wood burning stove.

Great little place to stumble across - was surprised how busy this was with locals milling around, having a chat etc.
