It's an easy to walk Canal Path,it stretches from Ellesmere Port to Chester, Ellesmere Port has a nice Boat Museum, and a friendly café

Standing on the Old Dee Bridge you can see the water flowing over the submerged dam. Behind the dam there are pleasure boats taking people on trips, as well as communal seating & cafes

Plenty of different places around Chester to stop and rest by the Dee whilst on a cycle ride or walk. Alongside the Groves area there's plenty of choices for refreshments and toilets

Lovely views of the River Dee and once crossed over into Handbridge you can easily walk to,and around, The Meadows area for a further walk alongside the River Dee

If you do the tour around the city walls, you will pass the River Dee. From here you have this panoramic view of the Old Dee Bridge. In front of us we could see cranes, seagulls and other birds. A quiet, great atmosphere right on the River Dee.

The Old Dee Bridge is Chester's oldest bridge. A bridge was first built in this site by the Romans, and the bridge that stands today is largely the result of a major rebuilding in 1387. It is a designated Grade I listed building and a scheduled monument.

Roman era bridge and the oldest in Chester. It can be busy with walkers on the weekends so take it easy when crossing. The surface on either side of the bridge is cobbled, but perfectly ridable on a road bike.

The Shropshire Union Canal winds into Chester from the south and is a wonderful place to walk. In summer, wildflowers, birds and wildlife thrive along the waterside and colourful canal boats putter about. This canal path is long and allows you to walk for miles, into or out of the city.

You may well need to dismount if busy, but a good way of getting across the River Dee in Chester whilst avoiding the worst of the traffic and providing a more scenic route.
