Hilly Cheshire village, can get busy at the weekends but well worth a visit

If you go down to the sunken garden between Sextons and the flower shop, you'll see the force of the water from the lower dam into Slitten Brook, and it flows into the Bridgewater canal

Cadishead & Little Woolden Moss is a once-exploited peat bog that’s starting to be reclaimed by nature, thanks to staff and volunteers at Lancashire Wildlife Trust. Peat extraction in the 19th century almost destroyed this peatland and many others in the region. But in recent years, awareness has grown about the importance of these habitats. The reserve is home to common lizards and dragonflies, as well as birds such as hobby, short-eared owl, skylark, and merlin. Sphagnum mosses thrive in the reserve, providing a colourful carpet and playing an important role in the formation of new peat.

Spud Wood is a small area of mixed broadleaf woodland bordered by the Bridgewater Canal. It's quite a new wood, planted in 1990 on an old potato field. It's managed by the Woodland Trust.

Risley Moss is a remnant of the boggy landscape that was created by the ending of the last ice age. As many as 60 species of breeding birds and 50 visiting species can be observed on the moss in a good year, from the Mossland Hide, the Woodland Hide or the Observation. Visitor Centre: Mon-Thurs: 9am - 5pm Weekend and Bank Holidays (Oct to Mar): 9am - 5pm Weekend and Bank Holidays (Apr to Sep): 10am - 6pm Closed: Fridays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day

Great tearoom and quaint village. Nice stroll round the reservoir (about 30 minutes).

Open on a Sunday Morning for Coffee and cake when everything else is shut. Always been friendly and accomodating, even when we walk in soaking wet from a ride!

Entrance to woodland walk that goes between Lymm dam & Lymm village. Great place to stop off for a coffee & snack.
