Lovely to see water and ducks in it again, last time i went it was dry as anything with nothing to be seen

Known locally as the ‘Pit Top Arch’ as it stands on the site of Ripley Colliery.

Built in 1844. Several of my ancestors can be found in the grave yard.

A memorial garden for John Flamsteed, opposite St Mary the Virgin's Church, which features the stellarsphere which shows the position of the stars and planets overhead at the current time. Free car parking on site.

Updated 2024, access to the castle is now severely limited due to the new land owner, can only be viewed from a fenced path across the field. The Codnor castle heritage trust is no longer involved with on site activities.

The castle is on private land, having been sold off. English Heritage maintains the ruins...but there's no access to the site other than a footpath, which goes past it.

This simple stone building, set in a tranquil corner of Belper, dates from around 1250, It was built by William de Ferrers, Earl of Derby, who was lord of many manors, including Belper, and who had castles at Tutbury and Duffield. At that time Belper was a village in Duffield Frith, one of the many Royal Forests-hunting grounds for the Kings of Mediaeval England.
