The visitors centre got some really good maps, the shop keeper also got some useful info and key points , good foot wear needed if your wantingo to climb the tor once at the top, obviously it's safer to wear good shoes, coat cause it's cold at the top around lunch time is a good time to go. ensure you always tell someone where your going if going alone, the weather on the moors changes fast.

ensure you have a good waterproof coat, don't go up when it's to dark as it's very rocky and uneven you would get very lost, in the summer it's amazing with great picnic spots and then it's very hot so sun cream needed definitely.

As your walking from the carpark and information centre if you keep Haytor to your left and walk you will find the Quarry easy

Give any train drivers a wave, and they will wave back! Take care whilst walking close to the beach drop.

Exmouth from Elephant Rock

This sheltered viewpoint is on the family friendly, multi-user trail at Haldon Forest. Big views over the flat lands around Exeter and towards the coast at Exmouth.

Great view, day or night. Be aware that the path up has seen better days and is really, really steep. I went down on my bum as I was on my own at night. Beautiful area, great connecting train line for easy forget-the-car holidays and seightseeing. Take a torch for evening/low light walks.

The river was unfortunately too high with the stepping stones in West Dart River. We continued after the bridge on the other side of the (joint) Dart and crossed barefoot one mile downstream on the stepping stones as indicated on the komoot map. (Good flat stones upto our knees)

This is the prettiest way up away from the road. Grassy slopes and Hay Tor looms over you as you get closer.

Haldon Forest Park opened the new start to the red trail in mid December 2023 and it's fantastic. It's packed gravel with berms at the start, then splits in two. Take the right 'short cut' to cut the entire red in two (or take it to ride back to the start and do the new section again) or stay left to carry on along the new bit and then get onto the usual red. This new section is nowhere near as challenging as the main red, but it's super fast and fun. As it spits you out on the fire track after a short distance, it's great for kids too, who can have a great time on this punchy gravel but bail before the red gets hairy. The way it's set up means it's easy to only do this bit, ride back to the start, and do it again and again.

This track is one of six routes across the national park marked as Miles Without Stiles. As you might expect, these routes don't feature any stiles, and are designed to be accessible for a whole raft of users, including those with limited mobility, rides of all-terrain powered mobility scooters and families with younger children. This straight track heads up from the car park a little further on from the Haytor Visitor Centre next to the main road up to Haytor Quarry, keeping the iconic rocks of Haytor on your left.
