Albury Heath is beautiful place for a stroll and can be combined with the neighbouring Albury Park. The heath is home to a variety of wildlife. Keep your eyes out for badgers and foxes, among others.

James the Elder (the Latin word 'major' is not translated as 'great' in English), to whom this church in Shere was dedicated, belongs, together with his brother, to the closest circle of Jesus' disciples. In his version of the "Good News" (this is the meaning of the word "gospel"), the Evangelist Mark lists the apostles: "James, the son of Zebedee, and John, the brother of James - to whom he gave the nickname Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder" (Mark 3:17). According to the Acts of the Apostles, James was executed for his faith. Famously used as the English setting in the classic romcom The Holiday, Shere is considered by many to be Surrey's prettiest village. Nestled on the River Tillingbourne, its idyllic country lanes and attractive houses make it a popular place to visit. It's located just to the south of the North Downs escarpment and there are many walking trails in the surrounding countryside.

The church is a prominent landmark and is clearly visible from Newlands Corner (as shown in the 'View to Albury' komoot Highlight https://www.komoot.com/highlight/3691306). The building is a fine example of red brick Victorian architecture and looks best in sunlight.
