Take your sunglasses off before riding into the tunnel, you'll go blind quickly in there.

Low light through the tunnel to protect the bats, but good surface and easy to see. Turn your lights on if you have them.

The weir on the River Plym near the Cann Viaduct in Bickleigh Vale. It's a nice place to swim or paddle. The river trail and the West Devon Way pass nearby.

The Plym Valley Trail is a cycle route that runs from Dartmoor to Plymouth along the River Plym. It is part of the National Cycle Network Route 27 and the Devon Coast to Coast ride. It is also part of the Drake’s Trail, which follows the old South Devon & Tavistock Railway line. The trail is mostly traffic-free and runs through National Trust-owned woodland. It offers scenic views of the river, the moorland and the industrial heritage of the area. The trail leads past dramatic ruins, towering cliffs and impressive viaducts. The trail is about 10 miles (16 km) long and can be accessed from various points along the way. You can start from Plym Bridge, where there is a car park and a visitor centre. You can also join the trail from Marsh Mills, Clearbrook or Yelverton. The trail ends at Laira Bridge in Plymouth, where you can continue along the waterfront or explore the city centre.

Smooth, gravel fire road on the northern border of the public section of Cann Woods. Excellent for hill efforts or if you want a nice, long, uninterrupted gravel descent.

Riding in a northern direction you exit the main, tarmac, trail & onto a firm, off-road & somewhat rocky surface that climbs steeply for approx 20m. Then take a sharp right and onto a bridge which takes you back over the valley trail and continues to climb up towards Cann Woods. At the end, you'll find a stile, which marks the border of the Woods. Rideable in all weathers on a CX or gravel bike.

Large, compact, rocky 'gravel' surface makes this track simple enough to ride all year round on a gravel or CX bike. Climbs up to the main gravel track which runs across the woods (Robert Lane).

The cycle trail passes over the River Plym by way of the Cann Viaduct. On the viaduct you will find a Peregrine Falcon viewing platform and its worth stopping here in spring and early summer. Opposite the platform is an old quarry where the Peregrines nest on ledges. There is a telescope mounted here so you can get a really good view of the nesting birds. Outside of these times, a break in your ride is still recommended to look out for other wildlife that call Plym Woods home, such as woodpeckers and ravens.

I can remember the steam train.. anyway, I tried out the blue trail just beyond the viaduct, all good until I fell off. Broken arm and hip, but quite close to derriford hospital once they'd got me to the ambulance. Always wear a helmet kids!

Take your binoculars! This will help you see the Peregrin and her chick's from the viewing point. Tavistock pannier market not open on a Monday.

Now a foot and cycle path, this viaduct occupies a rather beautiful place over the River Plym. There are trails along the river, underneath the viaduct and, of course, across it so you can admire it from any angle you choose. The viaduct is next to the former Cann Quarry which has very special residents: breeding peregrine falcons. As a result, the span is a great place to pause and see if you can spot these majestic birds.

Be aware the path is becoming a little unmaintained and broken up in areas. Caution is needed at a times as a sudden unexpected lump in the path can throw you off balance when you least expect it, ie, reaching for your water bottle

A number of cycle routes lead to Plymbridge, but there is only one real rout for bikes up through the valley, although there is access to Cann Woods downhill tracks and also there are the Plymbridge mountain bike trails a short way up the track. Good place for all abilities.

This is a great gentle trail that takes you from Plympton all the way to Tavistock. The northward trail is on a slight incline, but is only really felt on the way back down towards Plymouth. In Clearbrook, about 6 miles up the trail there is a nice pub and village green.
