The lake has been leased by a fishing club from Mannheim-Neckarau for years and is closed to pedestrians. Unfortunately, it is no longer a tourist destination. 🙁

At the end of the Rheinau port area and at the beginning of the Ofen-Riedwiesen nature reserve lies the Bay of Pigs.

A very nice NSG and always worth a visit. The area was given the name “Oven” because of its former use for clay extraction. These pits are now filled with water and offer ideal settlement opportunities for flora and fauna.

The NSG Ofen-Riedwiesen is the second largest nature reserve in Mannheim/Baden-Württemberg. The nature reserve has the second largest contiguous lowland meadow area in the administrative district of Karlsruhe and a part of the old Rhine with floodplain forest that still flows through it.
