A useful cut through to avoid traffic, it does involve walking for a short distance and carrying the bike over the bridge.

There is also often a van selling drinks and snacks on the road just before here too if you need a refill

Visit on a bike and no payment for parking. Miles of walking . Nice cafe. The estate is owned by the Duke of Devonshire and is open to visitors who pay to park. Fascinating area, with loads of history. Monastery was founded in 1120 as a priory. The Embassy and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway runs from here. The Dales Way passes through the estate. It gets really busy during the summer when visitors bring picnics and paddle in the river.

Worth walking past the Abbey for

In 1748 Baroness Clifford married William Cavendish and Bolton Abbey Estate thereafter belonged to the Dukes of Devonshire, until a trust was set up by the 11th Duke of Devonshire turning it over to the Chatsworth Settlement Trustees to steward.

Austrian themed mountain hut restaurant/cafe/bar. Complete with two cable cars you can sit in. Sadly only Austrian themed from the outside, but otherwise a great place to stop for a bite to eat, or even for a quick tea and scone.

This beautiful arched bridge over the River Wharfe dates from the 18th century and is Grade-II listed. The bridge is also on the southern boundary of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Absolutely stunning walk took me longer than I thought because the views were spectacular and it was a rather warm day so had to keep topping to cool the doggo down.

Kids may benefit from either a change of clothes or waterproof trousers as these are often muddy

Beautiful spot on the River Wharfe. Plenty of places for refreshments and rest.

Here you can comfortably drink a pint. Or more. And if you are hungry, there are also delicious dishes.

Great area to appreciate the Abbey as well as the surrounding grounds, would recommend going inside if possible.

Would recommend going around the full abbey as well as visiting inside.
