Key Characteristics of Ladin Houses Community-Focused: Vilas were not just houses but served as social hubs for families and communities, emphasizing solidarity and balance with the environment. Traditional Interiors: Majolica stoves (Stube): These traditional ceramic stoves were a central feature of the main room, providing warmth and comfort. Wooden boiserie: Elaborate wooden paneling adorned the walls and interior spaces, adding to the traditional alpine charm. Vaulted ceilings: Some original spaces, like a former speck smoking area, retained their vaulted ceilings, which were often painted black to represent the soot of the past.

Directly after or before the Umbrail Pass, you'll come to the turnoff to the Umbrail Pass in Val Müstair. Right next to the road, you can fill your water bottle and cool off a bit at the fountain.

At this station on the bear-themed trail, there is something for your ears: the Bärenbluus. The lyrics and music to the song are accompanied by bear figures carved from wood.
