The three murals which make up the artwork "Il cammino / The path" were created by Alessandro Ridolfi in 2020 on a surrounding wall of a monastery of Benedictine nuns in Strada Giardino in Cura. The murals reproduce the pilgrims who come out of a forest and arrive to the Saint Peter's Square in Rome. Alessandro Ridolfi, whose studies date back to the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence ist originally from Vetralla but often away from home.

On this stretch of the Via Francigena, during our crossing (the last ten days of September), we noticed an indescribable expanse of cyclamen in the undergrowth, unlike anything I've seen in other places more familiar to me in the north. This is the so-called "Neapolitan cyclamen" (Cyclamen hederifolium), a particular variety typical of central and southern Italy, with leaves with serrated, ivy-like edges.

A beautiful walk, you can do it all in one day but if you want to enjoy the place I recommend an overnight stay, if possible in Barbara or Romano.

San Giuliano is a hill in the municipality of Barbarano Romano. It was the site of a minor Etruscan city, then inhabited by the Romans, in the early Middle Ages and more recently by a group of hermit monks. Today there is the 7th century church of the same name, and the remains of various Etruscan necropolises.

A very interesting tombstone dating between the 4th and the 3rd century B.C. On one of the main walls, you can see the engraving of a wolf attacking a deer (at least that is one of several interpretations). You may recognize this scene, as it is what inspired the official park logo.

La Casina di Caiolo: an oasis in the middle of the Marturanum park. Area with picnic tables and barbecue area. I recommend stopping to taste Mrs. Rita's wild boar specialties! Open Saturday and Sunday.

The tomb of the deer, inside the necropolis of San Giuliano (Poggio Caiolo), is of the nut type and is characterized by monumental dimensions. Its name derives from a low relief depiction, on the wall of the staircase to the left of the tomb, of a deer attacked by a wolf.
