I have no idea why the lost places are fenced in like this. Perhaps so that the owner can only get back up after "cleaning up". I don't know if something like that can be successful. But there was a fence at some lost places in the city.

9月 20, 2021, St. Polycarp Church, Izmir
This church was also closed during my visit to Izmir, earthquake or COVID-19. I dont know. There is an opportunity to find out more. http://www.internetpfarre.de/blog/archives/345-HEILIGER-POLYKARP,-PATRON-DER-KIRCHE-VON-IZMIR,-BITTE-FUER-UNS!.html St. Polycarp Church is the oldest church in İzmir. In 1620, with the permission of the Turkish sultan Suliman the Great, a chapel was built to serve Christian worship. This chapel was then located within the building of the French consulate. In 1630 a church with an adjoining monastery was built, which was then raised to a parish church for the French community. This church was destroyed by fire in 1688. The current church dates from 1690. It has been damaged several times, but has been restored over and over again. In 1898 the building was enlarged and repainted. The frescoes inside the church are the work of the French architect Raymond Charles Péré, who lived in İzmir. Another piece of his work is the clock tower in Konak. His image is recorded on the fresco depicting the burning of St. Polycarp. This fresco is to the right of the main altar. Raymond Péré is the man with the black mustache who waits his turn to be tortured.

It was locked. One explanation was due to earthquake damage, the corona pandemic the other. What is true? I dont know. But it should be accessible. I lacked the access and maybe also the persistence. The church itself is described on Wikipedia. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St.-Johannes-Kathedrale_(Izmir)

Gündoğdu Square (Turkish: Gündoğdu Meydanı) is a city square in Izmir. It lies between the districts of Alsancak and Konak and marks the center of the Kordon Esplanade. In the middle of the square is the statue of the 'Tree of the Republic' (Turkish: Cumhuriyet Ağacı Heykeli) to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. Gündoğdu Square is one of the city's new main squares. It was built along with the Kordon Esplanade in 2000. Originally, the Esplanade was built with the intention of extending a 6-lane highway from Liman Avenue to the center of Konak, where it would continue on to the O-32 to Çeşme in Balçova. This plan was strongly opposed by many and later turned into a park. The construction of the park and the square was completed in 1999 and officially opened to the public on June 15, 2000. In 2003, Mayor Ahmet Piriştina asked for a statue to be built to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the republic. Ferit Özşen was chosen to design a statue that was named the Tree of the Republic. Since the square was opened, it has been used for many political rallies by prime ministers and party leaders, as well as for political protests such as the 2007 Republic Protests. Similar to Taksim Square in Istanbul, Gündoğdu Square is the main meeting place in Izmir, especially for the annual demonstrations in May.
