Croo Loch is separated from the sea by a narrow rocky and sandy barrier.

Built between 1925 and 1929 the Esha Ness or Eshaness lighthouse stands proud on the top of the high sea cliffs. It used to have a lighthouse keeper but was automated in 1974 and the old keepers cottage is now holiday accommodation managed by the Shetland Amenity Trust.

The Drongs are tall pillars of granite, consisting of four main stacks, known to climbers as the Main Drong, Slender Drong, Slim and and Stumpy Drong.

A narrow rocky strip is all that separates Croo Loch from the Atlantic Ocean.

The broch (a drystone roundhouse) is on the promontory that juts out into the Loch of Houlland. It's largely buried but here and there the exposed wall survives. There is also causeway that connects the headland with a nearby island in the loch, and another connecting the island to the west shore.

The Holes of Scraada (the Holes of old "Scratch," i.e., the Devil), named after a formation no longer seen: when a natural bridge fell down - so the story goes, just after a boy had walked over - and one "hole" was formed out of the two original old ones. This narrow opening approximately 100 metres from end to end, descends to a beach to which the sea flows, through a tunnel in the cliff.

Calder's Geo is an inlet in the cliffs of Esha Ness. A cave on the North side of the geo (which is only accessible by water craft during calm seas) is believed to house the largest natural cave chamber in the UK.

Esha Ness lighthouse is situated on the Northmavine peninsula of the Shetland Islands. Construction was completed around 1929 and its light can be seen at a distance of up to 25 nautical miles. Now automated, the former lighthouse keepers accommodation is available as a holiday let.
