The Pays des Collines (Land of Hills) is a land of legends and folklore. In Ellezelles, witches still haunt the village, and their representations can be seen in front of the church… They serve as a reminder that in 1610, five women were condemned to be burned at the stake for witchcraft. The Sentier de l’Étrange (Trail of the Strange) is an artistic walk that leads visitors to discover the works of Jacques Vandewattyne (1932-1999), also known as Watkyne, who resurrected all these myths and beliefs, passed down orally since time immemorial.

Easy, yes. Family-friendly, no. Strollers aren't suitable because of the often thick rocks in the forest floor and unpaved paths. No benches. Beautiful, yes, but hiking boots are necessary, and grandma has to stay home. Therefore, calling the trail family-friendly is misleading.

The medieval ruins of Herbeumont Castle, perched on a rocky ridge overlooking the village and the Semois River, offer many remarkable views of the meandering river. The fortress's foundation stones were laid in 1268 by Jehan de Rochefort, son of the House of Walcourt. Over the centuries, the castle was inhabited by various families: the House of Orgeo, the House of la Marck-Rochefort, the House of Stolberg, and the House of Löwestein. The natural steepness of the mountain made the castle inaccessible from three sides for a long time. In the 15th century, Herbeumont's walls were reinforced with a sturdy round tower at each southern end. Unfortunately, this did not prevent the castle from being destroyed by French troops on August 21, 1657. (Visit Wallonia)
