The Aschau is a stream in the Southern Heath that flows through Eschede and flows into the Lachte River. It characterizes the region's landscape with its natural riverbanks, wetlands, and diverse flora and fauna, providing a habitat for numerous waterfowl. The area surrounding the Aschau is popular with cyclists who enjoy the tranquil stream landscape and the combination of water, forests, and heathland. In addition to nature, traditional fish farming plays an important role along the Aschau, with freshly smoked fish from regional ponds attracting visitors. Thus, the Aschau combines nature-based experiences with regional culture and culinary delights, representing a central element of the Southern Heath.

The Evangelical Lutheran St. John's Church in Eschede is a historic church building. A church in the area was first documented in 1490. The current building dates from 1713 and was built in the Baroque style. Its hall-like construction with a five-sided chancel is characteristic. Particularly striking is the richly decorated pulpit altar with columns decorated with vine leaf motifs. A distinctive feature is the freestanding wooden bell tower, typical of churches in the Lüneburg Heath region. It was completely destroyed in a fire in 1978. The bells that fell can be seen next to the church today. The tower was faithfully rebuilt just one year later. A stamp is available at the church for pilgrims on the Way of St. James. It is available at the town hall during the week and in a box at the church on weekends.

The new building in 1713 was a baroque hall church with a five-sided choir. Of course, this "new church" also underwent a number of renovations in the following period, such as in 1825, 1853-1856, 1898, 1922, 1950 and the large, comprehensive renovation in 1968 under Pastor Görke. Before the new building was built in 1710, a wooden, free-standing bell tower with three bells was built in front of the west side of the church. These bells hung there until 1917 (melted down) and were only replaced by three new steel bells in 1922. The church tower burned down completely in 1978 and was then rebuilt in wood in 1979. The permanent exhibition of the Südheide Nature Park in the train station in Eschede consists of three rooms with around 150 m². These are used for different themes and designs. The Südheide Nature Park with its various landscape elements, its flora & fauna and its cultural history are the focus of this information offer. The effects of climate change in the past, present and future are illustrated using clear examples.
