Approximately 1.2 km north of the town of Metzels at a prominent crossroads with a resting place, immediately after the passage of the Wallbach (follow the hiking trail that leads from the 'Neumarktstrasse' downhill into the Wallbachsgrund on the eastern edge of the town), is the 'Schwedenkreuzchen'. . The stone cross originally stood 5 m to the southeast. of the current location. The stump of the original shaft still sticks out of the ground. Since around 1965, the upper part of the stone cross lay in a moat about 50 m west of the original location. It was probably broken off at the shaft just above the ground during timber transport. In April 1984, K. H. Skull, H. Hartmann and H. Linser, Metzels, re-erected the cross. The upper part of the cross was placed on a newly hewn shaft that came from a courtyard entrance. For safety reasons, the new location is a little further away from the trail junction. Popular tradition: It is said to be the gravestone of a fallen captain (Lit. O. Frank, 1919). Dating and interpretation: 'This cross is also associated with the battle between Count Poppo VII (XIII!) of Henneberg and the Bishop of Würzburg in 1228 or 1222.' (Lit. O. Frank, 1919 - This has not been proven and also much too early! (F. Störzner). 'A widow from Metzels once tore down the stone cross with her wooden cart.
