In midsummer, you can barely see the lake because the reeds are quite high. The boardwalks are rickety and may only be used by members of the local fishing club, but they do offer a beautiful view of the lake.

The Breitunger Rennsteig leads 16 km from Breitungen to the actual Rennsteig. It was explored and created by the founders of the Rennsteig Association. If you believe local historian Georg Brückner, this is actually the continuation of the original Rennsteig, as it follows the historical state border between Hesse-Cassel and Saxony-Meiningen. This is why this path is also called the Ur-Rennsteig. It begins at boundary stone 193 on the banks of the Werra.

The wildlife enclosure is well stocked and spacious. The owners' official feeding area is located behind the restaurant by the car park. So feel free to take a look there if you can't find any animals.

The meadow orchard is located on one of the many former gravel ponds near the Werra. The path past here is recommended. There is also a small rest area here.
