The Altenburg region and its surroundings, including the remediated Wismut mine site(s), are easily accessible and "easy" to explore. Furthermore, it is interesting from a settlement and tribal history perspective, as the very old noble families from Coburg, Altenburg, the Gera/Weida (Reuss) area, Meiningen, Schwarzbach, and many others also developed and merged their origins and family connections here. This period stretches back to / around / from approximately the 8th to 9th centuries.

Along the trail, there are numerous hands-on activities that are especially exciting for children. These include pasture huts for hiding, swinging rope bridges for swinging, a water wheel for powering, and a mud pit for splashing around.

The Mennsdorf church is not surrounded by a village cemetery, as is usually the case. It is said that heavy rainfall in the middle of the 19th century caused the small village stream, the Paitzdorfer Sprotte, to swell to such an extent that it flooded and swept away half the village. Since the church and a few surrounding farms are very low-lying, the flood rose so high that even the cattle in the stables could barely keep themselves above water. The cemetery was washed away after this disaster. With foresight, the Mennsdorf citizens created the new churchyard on the western edge of the village.
