The nave was added in 1499. The church was rebuilt in 1803 to 1804 after a fire in the late Gothic predecessor building. After a bomb hit in 1945, the church was rebuilt from 1949 to 1950 and consecrated on December 26, 1950. The Schmölln train station has now become "Schmölln Station". The new name, visible from afar on the east and west facades, is based on the historical facade lettering of the station building, which was inaugurated in 1864. This was (re-)discovered by the builders when looking through old postcards from the beginning of the 20th century. Franz Bartsch, a gifted musician and composer, was born in Schmölln. The people of Schmölln honored him with a loving memory by naming this popular bridge, which is also part of the Sprotter cycle path!
