Like every other town, Schwarzenbek also has its war memorial. It is located a little way off in a piece of forest.

A network of paths crossing at right angles runs through the Rülau Forest. They date back to the time when the forest was still used for forestry. But one path is even older. It cuts through the grid pattern of right-angled paths and leads almost in a straight line from the Radewiese near Schützenallee to Gülzow: the Knotensteig. A Steig (Low German: Stieg) originally referred to a narrow path over hills and mountains that cannot be used by vehicles. The connection between the two places bears its name because it was previously marked with knotted willow branches. But when the Nature Conservation Foundation bought the 300-hectare Rülau Forest in 2008, it removed the path from cultivation. The result: It became overgrown. Numerous Schwarzenbek residents protested, but now the path is open again. The town of Schwarzenbek has repaired the Knotensteig trail on the Schwarzenbek side, and the path on the Gülzow side is also back in good condition. The Linau was dammed here to create this idyllic fishing lake, where you can also take a break a little way off the road.
