The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John the Baptist, a listed building, is located in Dettum, a municipality in the Wolfenbüttel district of Lower Saxony. The parishes of Dettum, Kneitlingen, and Evessen were merged to form the Martin Luther Dettum parish of the Schöppenstedt provostship within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Braunschweig. The Gothic cruciform church was first mentioned around 1300. It consists of a nave, a slightly narrower chancel, and a church tower made of rubble stone in the west. The large arched windows of the nave and the portal in the south of the tower were added in the 18th century. In 1906, the church was expanded in neo-Gothic style with a two-story transept, an eight-sided crossing tower, and a 7/10 polygonal chancel, which originally had a straight end. Stone galleries are located in the transept. The interior of the nave is covered by a two-bay ribbed vault, whose ribs protrude abruptly from the squat pillars. The choir, also with two bays, also has a ribbed vault. The church's furnishings include a crucifix above the altar from the first half of the 13th century and a late Gothic relief depicting a crucifixion group.

The estate was acquired in 1776 by Privy Councilor Albrecht Edmont Hieronymus von Münchhausen and has remained in the family's possession for generations to this day. Because the estate was unprotected, it was subject to billeting and looting during wartime. Behind the courtyard is a manor park with exotic trees in the style of an English garden. The manor is not accessible; the park can be entered by prior arrangement with the owner.
