The 23-hectare protected forest serves to preserve and develop a groundwater-influenced pedunculate oak-hornbeam forest with holly, as well as stands of alder and ash, while simultaneously safeguarding the water balance and habitats of endangered plant species. As a particularly valuable remnant of such a mixed deciduous forest in the sparsely wooded Prignitz region, it is being scientifically monitored long-term and without direct human intervention to study forest development, soil, flora, fauna, and natural self-organization processes. At the same time, the area functions as a forestry demonstration plot, conserves forest genetic resources, and contributes to the long-term preservation of biodiversity in self-regulating communities.

Beautiful monastery directly on the Stepenitz. Here you can experience and enjoy the Stepenitz, which was declared the river landscape of the year 2024/2025 by the Friends of Nature Germany and the German Anglers Association, in its original power and visit the impressive monastery.

There is not much left to see of the former watermill.

Of the Marienfließ monastery, the oldest Cistercian monastery in Prignitz, today only the monastery church remains, which is used as a parish church. In 1829 a wooden ceiling was installed and a new roof turret was installed. In 1900 the interior was renovated. The church is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Stepenitz, this small, lively river of the Prignitz, does not offer that many opportunities to hike directly along it. This section is one of the highlights - you walk directly along the river and get many impressions of the natural river bed.

This old bridge leads from the small car park on the L13 over the Stepenitz. Originally there was a sheep pen here, hence the name.

A path on a rampart; in the forest then as an aisle, hardly recognizable, but still an experience

The former water mill is located on a side arm of the Stepenitz, which used to be the main arm. It has not been in operation for a long time, the paddle wheel is missing, but the original purpose of the building is still recognizable.
