A very nice place to rest.

The Dolphin Fountain (also known as the Meadow Fountain) on the Kleiner Gleichberg near Römhild is a historic, restored spring located on the western slope near the Celtic hillfort. It was inaugurated around 1903, renovated in 2013, and is a popular rest stop along the mountain's hiking trails. It lies on the western slope of the 641-meter-high Kleiner Gleichberg, below the hillfort. The fountain was restored and rebuilt after a long period of disrepair. It is considered a gem by nature lovers. It is the source of the Wiesleinbach stream. Celtic settlement remains and dry stone walls are located nearby. The fountain exemplifies the dedication of the Friends of Steinsburg Association to the upkeep of the site.

The stone dumps of the Steinsburg on the Kleiner Gleichberg near Römhild in Thuringia are a sea of volcanic rock formed by the eroding basalt blocks of the former volcano. They line the slopes of the basalt cones and are a typical feature of the crumbling volcanic ruins of the Gleichberg Mountains. The term "Steinsburg" probably derives from these large stone fields surrounding the mountain plateau. In Celtic times, these basalt blocks were used to build dry-stone walls for the oppidum (hilltop settlement) built around the mountain.

After completing the climb, you can sit on this bench and gaze directly at Römhild and the Großer Gleichberg, which seems almost dwarfed from here. Regardless, the view is unique. 🤩

You need to be pretty fit to get up here by bike, but it's worth it.

Here you are standing directly on the edge of one of the basalt slopes that are so typical of the Kleiner Gleichberg. Across the slightly hilly landscape of the Gabfeld, the ridge of the Thuringian Forest can be clearly seen in the distance. An engraved panoramic stone plaque explains the individual peaks.
