Master butcher Kurt Neundorf, son of the landlord of the former Zum Straufhain inn in Streufdorf, came to Heldburg in 1931 and purchased house number 1 on Häfenmarkt from the Heubner brewery in Themar. It was a time of hyperinflation, and Kurt Neundorf had to pay 2,000 gold marks, the stable currency, for the property in Heldburg. His grandson, Dr. Ulrich Neundorf, recounts this. As old photographs show, the house was quite dilapidated at the time.

Built in 1605, the most representative half-timbered house in the region, renovated by Bastian Happach in 1660 with richly ornamented timber framing, carved cherub heads, shell palmettes, and half-rosettes, and an elaborate stone inscription plaque in the Renaissance style. Formerly used for agriculture, as a blacksmith's shop, inn, and butcher's shop; restored several times in the 19th and 20th centuries. Privately owned. Source: Information panel at the house

Our Heldburg Forestry District comprises 12 forest districts and is also the southernmost forestry district in the Free State of Thuringia. The Heldburg region, the Gleichberge hills, and the castles of Straufhain and Heldburg are attractive destinations for forest visitors. Our district office in Heldburg is also worth seeing – a building steeped in forestry history. Our forestry district is characterized by extensive oak forests in the south – which is why the oak is the "characteristic tree species" of our district. North of the Werra River, for example around Hildburghausen, coniferous pine and spruce forests predominate, while the "Franconian Threshold" south of the Werra is characterized by beech-rich deciduous forests. Originally a very beautiful building, but a hiking stamp doesn't belong here.

The gatehouse dates from 1560 and features a stone rebate for the former portcullis and stone hinges on the outer pointed arch portal. The first floor formerly housed the prison. The second floor was added in the 17th century to contain living quarters and a clock mechanism. The small clock bell is located in the arcaded upper story. The defensive wall runs along both sides of the gate, with a former municipal bakehouse and living quarters built onto the left side. Source: Information panel

An idyllic spot on a (nameless?) lake. The Schappach stream is apparently dammed here, forming several small ponds.

A very nice place to rest. A little further up, a little off the path, there's a small chapel.
